Three decades at the forefront of British foot surgery.
Mr Stuart A. Metcalfe is one of the UK's most experienced Consultant Podiatric Surgeons — a clinician, author and educator whose work has helped define modern practice in foot and lower-limb surgery. Patients travel to see him for the same reason colleagues send their most complex referrals: an unusually deep grasp of biomechanics coupled with the surgical judgement to know when — and when not — to operate.
He qualified in Podiatry in 1990, completed an advanced MPhil in Biomechanics, and went on to earn the Fellowship in Podiatric Surgery — the highest surgical accreditation in the profession. Appointed Consultant in 2005, he has since delivered surgical and non-surgical care to many thousands of NHS and private patients, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Podiatry along the way.
His practice is defined by three things: evidence — every plan is grounded in the current literature he himself often contributes to; precision — a preference for the smallest effective intervention, whether that is a bespoke orthotic, Swift microwave therapy for a stubborn verruca or a scarf/Akin osteotomy for a painful bunion; and clarity — patients consistently comment on how carefully he explains what is wrong, what the options are, and what to realistically expect.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Metcalfe has authored more than 25 peer-reviewed papers and a major textbook, and lectures nationally and internationally on biomechanics, paediatric foot conditions, gait analysis and surgical technique. He has served the Faculty of Podiatric Surgery in examining and tutoring roles and is regularly instructed as an expert witness in personal-injury, biomechanics and clinical-negligence cases — trusted by courts, insurers and colleagues to explain complex clinical issues with unusual clarity.
He is an approved consultant with all major UK healthcare insurers and practises at Spire Parkway Hospital, Solihull, offering both private and NHS Choose & Book pathways.
