About the Condition

ABOUT ARTHRITIS
The foot is commonly affected by arthritis leading to pain, difficulty in walking and deformity of the foot.

Causes of Arthritis

There are many different types of arthritis and it is very important that the correct diagnosis is made so that proper treatment can be initiated. Some of the more common types are listed here, click on the link for more information:

•Osteoarthritis
•Rheumatoid arthritis
•Gout

Making the Diagnosis

Your consultant will take a detailed history from you before examining you to determine which joints are affected. In many cases further tests are needed to understand what is causing the joint pain. These might include blood tests and x-rays. If your Consultant Podiatric Surgeon is concerned you might have a generalised type of arthritis you may be referred to a Rheumatologist.

Here are some examples of different joints within the foot affected by arthritis:

• Talo-navicular joint arthritis
